I was joking with my neighbor about my new job that leaves me less time for Oppo during the day because I am actually a real scientist now making real scientist pay for a real company. But I leave earlier in the morning and come home a bit later and she noticed that. So I made the joke about how much better paid I am and she goes "So is that why you bought the fiesta instead of a mustang?" and I thought about it for a moment......
You see, originally I math'd it out that I would be making about 600 more a month after taxes. Oh sure, that could easily pay for a financed mustang but I need to save money for a house and other things in my future and retirement so really I only want to spend about 150-200 extra a month on random crap. Now, I just got my first paycheck........I'm making about 900$ a month more than my old job between no decrease in insurance premiums, more direct pay, and company cell phone. So in theory....you know 400 - 450 a month could be spent on something fun.....If I save my pennies for a year or two, I could easily either pay off my fiesta and then buy a mustang or have both the mustang and fiesta at the same time with low monthly payments. I'm aware Tavarish is probably screaming internally right now but I probably won't do this anyways. Just a hilarious thought that entered my mind at how much better off I am at this job than my old one.
Note: I've already said before that I am getting a classic 911 in a year or two with this money, I just find it funny to go from "Can't afford a mustang, have to settle for a FiST" to "I can have both the mustang GT AND a Fiesta ST" in the span of a few months.

I did math once...
It hurt.

Ive done a lot of math in my life. I would like to see the equation where x=Mustang. Hehe

if(SpendingMoney>=MSRPMustangGT)
{
flag1=true;
}
if(flag1==true)
{
x="Mustang";
}else(x="Nothing, now go buy some more bus passes you loser.");
System.out.print("The car you can afford with your spending money is:"+x);

The correct answer is,
"Bigger 401k contribution."

I know you engineers suck at the maths, that's why us scientists always have to fix your mistakes :P

Don't make me math out my cars. I already know I numbers-wise shouldn't be able to afford a 944 and a FoST; but I do have some "cheats" in my favor.

Because we don't need the math! ;)

You could get the same monthly payments for an old 911 right now for the amount of money you'd spend on V8 Mustang + FiST payments - depending on the year and condition of the 911. (right?)
I'm an engineer, bad at math.

Us engineers are perfectly good at math. We just don't tweak with the math to fit a model like scientists do =P

Math, science, history, engrish... don't need none of it. just tell me what you want to happen and Ill connect a to c and make it happen (what instructions?)

Buy a house first man. Just my 0.02. Fiesta ST is a great car anyway.

Eh, I doubt he's internalizing.
Funny you should post about such a dilemma though, I am currently thinking about FiST vs. Stang.

I just found out today that bmw has a lease deal going for $389 a month on the z4. I'm really really thinking that's not a terrible amount to break out of my budget.

I actually doubled mine from my old job to this one.....
![]() 09/24/2014 at 18:11 |

We scientists have to tweak the math to fit the model because you engineers keep forgetting to account for real world conditions :P

Fuel economy, city driving, and autocross fun or V8 power, sexier styling, RWD fun, and a lot less economical. If youcan only have one and you live in a snow/rust state I'd get the FiST.

Then the correct answer is,
"Put extra money into cheap index ETFs."

That is actually my plan, going to save up money for a house and an old 911 after that. I actually already have the house down payment almost saved up and next year I plan to get into a "rent to own" house to make it even easier to get approved for the mortgage.

House is next, 911 after that.

Eh, I started a mutual fund account and have some of my pay go into that every month. Seems to perform well enough.

Only because our real world conditions are not idealized versions of "the real world." :p

I'm in quality. Your professions are the reason I have a job. Just wanted to say hi. And thanks. Carry on.

How dare you insult my math skills. Without engineering, science is just philosophy. :)

Bitch, please, I can go from concept to finished product without an engineer within 500 feet of my work at any time. Science - When you need to get things done.

Messy code :p
